Global Pricing Strategy & Southern Europe Market Access - Italy - Remote, with travel to clients and our European offices as and when required.
We are seeking an experienced Global Pricing Strategy and Southern Europe Market Access professional to lead pricing, reimbursement and market access strategy across international markets, with particular responsibility for Southern Europe. This role will develop evidence-based pricing strategies, support successful product launches, optimise reimbursement outcomes and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will combine strategic insight, analytical capability and strong knowledge of healthcare systems, pharmaceutical pricing and market access across Southern European markets.
Global Pricing Strategy and Southern Europe Market Access – Key responsibilities (pricing, reimbursement and launch strategy)
Develop and implement global pricing strategies aligned with product value, commercial objectives, patient access goals and long-term portfolio priorities.
Lead pricing and market access strategy for Southern European markets, including Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece, adapting global approaches to local healthcare environments.
Provide strategic pricing, reimbursement and market access input across the product lifecycle, from early development and asset planning through launch, post-launch optimisation and lifecycle management.
Develop pricing corridors, target price ranges, value-based pricing frameworks, discount strategies and price governance processes.
Assess market access opportunities, healthcare system dynamics, payer requirements, reimbursement pathways, budget impact and affordability considerations.
Lead the development of country-specific pricing and market access strategies, tactical plans, value stories and payer engagement approaches.
Partner with global, regional and local colleagues in commercial, medical affairs, health economics and outcomes research, regulatory, finance, supply chain and marketing teams.
Provide pricing and access recommendations for business cases, product prioritisation, licensing opportunities, portfolio decisions and investment evaluations.
Coordinate payer value propositions, reimbursement submissions, negotiation strategies, price approval activities and market access deliverables.
Monitor competitor pricing, reimbursement decisions, health technology assessment outcomes, policy changes, tender activity and market developments.
Analyse external reference pricing, internal reference pricing, parallel trade, mandatory discounts, clawbacks and other local pricing mechanisms.
Support negotiations with national and regional payers, health authorities, hospitals, procurement organisations and other market access stakeholders.
Develop and maintain pricing and market access assumptions, scenarios, forecasts, dashboards and executive-level reports.
Identify access risks, pricing opportunities and potential barriers to launch, recommending mitigation plans and escalation actions where required.
Establish consistent pricing governance, decision rights, approval processes, tools and reporting standards across markets.
Lead, mentor and develop pricing and market access colleagues, fostering a collaborative, analytical and high-performance culture.
Required skills and experience (global pricing and Southern Europe market access)
Proven experience in global pricing, value and access, market access, reimbursement, health economics or a related pharmaceutical, biotechnology or healthcare function.
Demonstrable experience developing and executing pricing and market access strategies across multiple international markets.
Strong knowledge of healthcare systems, payer structures, reimbursement pathways and pricing regulations in Southern European markets, particularly Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece.
Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device or other healthcare product launches and lifecycle management programmes.
Strong understanding of health technology assessment, payer evidence requirements, value communication and reimbursement decision-making.
Experience with pricing research, value-based pricing, price benchmarking, competitive intelligence, budget impact analysis and scenario modelling.
Knowledge of European pricing and reimbursement frameworks, including external reference pricing, internal reference pricing, tendering and mandatory discount mechanisms.
Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders without direct authority in a matrixed, international organisation.
Strong analytical and financial skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate insights into clear strategic recommendations.
Experience preparing executive presentations, pricing recommendations, market access plans, business cases and payer-facing materials.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex pricing and access issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, with experience using pricing, forecasting, market intelligence or business analytics systems.
Experience working with local affiliates, external consultants, health economists, payer advisors and market research agencies is desirable.
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in one or more Southern European languages, particularly Italian, Spanish, Portuguese or Greek, is desirable.
Qualifications and professional attributes (market access leadership and commercial strategy)
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Economics, Health Economics, Business, Finance, Public Policy or a related discipline.
A postgraduate qualification in Health Economics, Market Access, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related subject is desirable.
Commercially aware, strategically minded and able to balance patient access, payer value, competitive dynamics and business performance.
Strong understanding of ethical, legal and compliance requirements relevant to pharmaceutical pricing, reimbursement and payer engagement.
Confident and credible when presenting recommendations, challenging assumptions and influencing decisions at senior leadership level.
Highly analytical, structured and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Collaborative and culturally aware, with the ability to work effectively across global, regional and local teams.
