Key Account Manager – Wallonia - Full-Time - Field-Based - Belgium
We are seeking an experienced Key Account Manager to develop and maintain strong relationships with healthcare professionals, hospitals, healthcare organisations and other key stakeholders across Wallonia. This role will deliver customer-focused account plans, communicate relevant product and disease-area information, identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes and work collaboratively with internal teams to support business objectives. The successful candidate will have strong commercial and relationship-building skills, a sound understanding of the Belgian healthcare environment and the ability to work compliantly in a field-based role.
Key Account Manager – Wallonia key responsibilities (account management and customer engagement)
Develop and maintain trusted, professional relationships with key healthcare professionals, hospital stakeholders, pharmacists, specialist nurses, procurement teams and other relevant customers across Wallonia.
Manage an assigned geographical territory and develop effective account plans aligned with customer needs, local healthcare priorities and company objectives.
Identify, prioritise and engage key accounts and stakeholders within hospitals, regional healthcare organisations, specialist centres and relevant community settings.
Communicate accurate, balanced and approved information about company products, services, disease areas and available patient support resources.
Deliver high-quality customer meetings, presentations, product discussions, educational activities and account reviews in accordance with applicable procedures.
Understand customer needs, treatment pathways, local access considerations, procurement processes and barriers to optimal patient care.
Gather, analyse and communicate customer insights, market intelligence, competitor activity, unmet needs and emerging opportunities to relevant internal stakeholders.
Build and execute account strategies that support appropriate product adoption, patient access and sustainable customer partnerships.
Work effectively with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Commercial Operations and other cross-functional colleagues.
Coordinate appropriate customer-focused initiatives, including meetings, educational programmes, congress activity and stakeholder engagement, in line with company policies.
Monitor market developments, clinical practice, treatment guidelines, healthcare policy, reimbursement changes and competitor activity relevant to the assigned territory.
Maintain accurate and timely records of customer interactions, account plans, insights, opportunities and follow-up actions in the company’s customer relationship management system.
Manage territory budgets and resources responsibly, ensuring activities deliver value for customers and the organisation.
Respond appropriately to customer questions and refer medical information, product quality complaints and adverse event reports through the correct internal channels.
Ensure all activities comply with Belgian legislation, applicable industry codes, company policies, standard operating procedures and ethical business practices.
Required skills and experience (key account management and pharmaceutical sales in Belgium)
Demonstrable experience in Key Account Management, Specialty Sales, Hospital Sales, Business Development or an equivalent customer-facing role within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device or healthcare sector.
Experience managing strategic accounts and engaging healthcare professionals, hospital decision-makers, procurement stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
Good understanding of the Belgian healthcare environment, including hospital structures, reimbursement, market access and relevant regional considerations in Wallonia.
Ability to develop and implement territory plans, account strategies and customer engagement plans based on clear priorities and measurable objectives.
Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify customer needs, business opportunities and barriers to patient access.
Ability to communicate product, clinical and disease-area information clearly and appropriately to customers with different levels of expertise.
Experience working in a regulated environment and understanding of compliant, ethical and non-misleading customer engagement.
Ability to gather and communicate actionable customer insights to support cross-functional planning and decision-making.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance and Commercial teams.
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, influencing and relationship-building skills.
Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts, priorities and deadlines independently.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using customer relationship management and field activity management systems.
Full driving licence and willingness to travel regularly throughout Wallonia, with occasional travel elsewhere in Belgium or internationally as required.
Qualifications and professional attributes (Wallonia healthcare account management and customer engagement)
Degree or equivalent qualification in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, Healthcare, Business, Marketing or a related discipline.
Relevant experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device or healthcare account management; experience in hospital or specialist care is desirable.
Fluency in French and good working proficiency in English; Dutch language skills are desirable.
Knowledge of the Belgian pharmaceutical market, healthcare stakeholders and regional healthcare structures.
Customer-focused, commercially minded and able to build credible, long-term relationships with senior stakeholders.
Confident and persuasive communicator with strong presentation, negotiation and questioning skills.
Analytical and digitally capable, with the ability to interpret account information, market data and performance metrics.
Highly ethical, compliant and professional, with a clear commitment to responsible customer engagement and patient-focused outcomes.
Self-motivated, adaptable and resilient, with the ability to work independently in a geographically dispersed organisation.
