Medical Science Liaison – Oncology - Full-Time - Field-Based - United Kingdom

We are seeking an experienced Medical Science Liaison to provide high-quality scientific and medical engagement across the UK oncology community. This role will develop trusted relationships with healthcare professionals, communicate clinical and scientific evidence, support medical education and gather insights that inform medical strategy and patient care. The successful candidate will have strong oncology knowledge, excellent communication skills and the ability to engage credibly with clinical experts, researchers and cross-functional teams in a compliant and non-promotional manner.

Medical Science Liaison – Oncology key responsibilities (scientific engagement and medical affairs)

• Develop and maintain trusted, peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders, oncologists, haematologists, specialist nurses, pharmacists, researchers and other healthcare professionals across the UK.

• Provide accurate, balanced and non-promotional scientific information relating to oncology products, disease areas, clinical development programmes and the wider treatment landscape.

• Engage with external experts through scientific meetings, one-to-one discussions, advisory boards, congresses, investigator meetings and other medical education activities.

• Communicate clinical trial data, scientific evidence, treatment guidelines, publications, real-world evidence and relevant medical information in a clear and credible manner.

• Gather, analyse and communicate unsolicited medical insights, customer feedback, unmet patient needs, treatment challenges and emerging trends to inform medical and commercial strategy.

• Support the development and implementation of UK medical affairs plans aligned with global strategy, local healthcare priorities and applicable business objectives.

• Provide medical input into clinical development, evidence generation, publications, investigator-sponsored research, health economics and outcomes research, and external engagement plans.

• Support clinical research activities, including site identification, feasibility assessments, investigator engagement and study-related scientific discussions, in accordance with applicable procedures.

• Identify opportunities for appropriate scientific exchange, medical education and collaborative initiatives that address unmet needs in oncology care.

• Attend relevant national and international oncology congresses, scientific conferences and professional meetings, providing timely summaries and insights to internal stakeholders.

• Respond to unsolicited medical information requests in collaboration with the Medical Information and wider Medical Affairs teams, ensuring responses are accurate, balanced and compliant.

• Collaborate closely with medical affairs, clinical operations, regulatory affairs, market access, pharmacovigilance, commercial, marketing and health economics colleagues.

• Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of external engagements, scientific insights, activities and follow-up actions in accordance with company requirements.

• Monitor developments in oncology research, clinical practice, treatment guidelines, healthcare policy and the UK pharmaceutical environment.

• Ensure all activities comply with the ABPI Code of Practice, UK legislation, company policies, standard operating procedures and applicable ethical and pharmacovigilance requirements.

Required skills and experience (oncology medical science liaison and field medical affairs)

• Demonstrable experience in a Medical Science Liaison, Field Medical, Medical Affairs or equivalent scientific role within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or healthcare sector.

• Strong knowledge of oncology, haematology-oncology, solid tumours, blood cancers or a relevant therapeutic area, with the ability to interpret and discuss complex scientific data.

• Experience engaging with UK healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, investigators and multidisciplinary clinical teams.

• Understanding of clinical research, evidence generation, clinical trials, real-world evidence, scientific publications and the UK healthcare environment.

• Ability to communicate scientific and clinical information effectively to audiences with different levels of expertise.

• Experience developing and delivering scientific presentations, medical education sessions, advisory boards, congress briefings or investigator meetings.

• Strong understanding of compliant, non-promotional scientific exchange and the requirements of the ABPI Code, MHRA guidance and relevant industry standards.

• Ability to identify, document and communicate actionable insights from external stakeholders to support medical strategy and cross-functional decision-making.

• Experience working collaboratively with internal stakeholders across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access and Commercial functions.

• Excellent interpersonal, presentation, influencing and relationship-building skills.

• Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, customer engagements and deadlines independently.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using customer relationship management, medical information or field activity management systems.

• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across the UK, with occasional international travel as required.

Qualifications and professional attributes (UK oncology medical affairs and scientific communication)

• Advanced scientific or clinical qualification, such as a PhD, PharmD, MSc, MBBS, BSc, nursing qualification or equivalent degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, Life Sciences or a related discipline.

• Relevant oncology, haematology, clinical research or pharmaceutical industry experience; experience working in a field-based medical role is desirable.

• Strong ability to critically evaluate clinical data, published literature, treatment guidelines and scientific evidence.

• Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to prepare clear scientific reports, presentations, summaries and correspondence.

• Credible, confident and scientifically curious, with the ability to engage in meaningful peer-to-peer dialogue with senior clinical experts.

• Patient-focused and committed to improving outcomes for people living with cancer through responsible scientific engagement.

• Highly ethical, compliant and professional, with a clear understanding of boundaries between medical and promotional activities.
